Sketches: Scotland
In 2011, Anne Bessac was awarded a Presidential Fellowship by Savannah College of Art & Design. For ten weeks she wandered through northern Scotland hiking and drawing the coastline. Six of those weeks were spent as an artist-in-resident at Hospitalfield Centre for Culture & The Arts at Abroath. Afterwards she traveled north by ferries to Lerwick and on to Fair Island. When she met old friends or made new ones, she asked, "Show me your favorite walk." These drawings are a record of her experience of the North Sea's coast rather than a descriptive rendering of it.
